Welcome to our global garden
A food garden is something that we have wanted at Community Magnet Charter School for a long time. In 2013 during one of our “Community Days”, parents volunteered their time and energy to build 8 raised beds so that we can encourage the kids to engage the natural world, learn the lesson of “seed to table”, and enjoy the flavors of a fresh harvest. In the summer of 2015, we received an amazing grant for a Learning Garden from The Kitchen Community and it has been installed in front of the 4th grade area.
Our vision is to grow vegetables from various global regions to reflect the diverse student body. We create simple but delicious foods using the vegetables from the garden and offer tastings to each class as a creative and fun way to encourage the students to become aware of what they are eating and to teach them that healthy food choices can be as appealing to the eye as it is to the palate.
This program relies wholly on parent volunteers and your help is needed to continue the success of our garden. Please take a look at what we’ve been doing!
